Durox on track with Formula 1
The company in Remanzacco specialises in hard anodizing of aluminum. It works with Ducati and Brembo. It serves several sectors, above all in Italy. It exports to Austria, Slovenia, India and China.
It was one of the first companies in Italy to carry out hard anodizing of aluminum: Durox of Remanzacco, part of the Micron Coatings group since 2000, is a niche business whose strength is very high specialisation.
Forty-three employees, turnover of 4.6 million in 2024 and net profit of about 850 thousand euro: the company has just passed the 50-year mark. Founded in 1973, it specialises in natural and hard anodizing of precision mechanical parts, including large ones. Over time it has also developed an innovative hard-anodizing process, OX-W, which improves corrosion resistance, lowers final roughness and reaches higher thicknesses on alloys with a high silicon and copper content. Durox also carries out coloured anodizing of titanium, which creates a nanometric layer of titanium oxide on the surface, with anti-galling and colouring properties.
The plant has three lines. One of them, among the most advanced in the country, hard-anodizes large parts up to 7.5 metres long.
The sectors served are varied, in a market that is mainly national (northern and central Italy) but not only: Durox has Austrian and Slovenian customers and also exports, in a small share, to India and China. The company works for industrial machinery, packaging, plastics forming, textiles, marine and automotive.
In automotive, the treatments carried out by Durox specialists also reach Formula 1 and MotoGP. «We have — explains owner and CEO Luca Bordiga — a highly advanced metallographic and chemical laboratory for research and development, which lets us work with major Italian and European automotive companies, from Ducati to Brembo, from GKN Automotive to Mahle and König Automotive. We carry out specific treatments for them and share the projects, because a high-level result needs the whole chain to be followed. We run specific tests on micro and medium hardness and on everything related to strength and corrosion.»
The delicacy and complexity of the work call for a very high level of specialisation. «Our employees — the CEO points out — build that skill in the company: it is almost impossible to find people already trained outside, the work is so specific. So we handle the whole learning process internally. We try to build a close-knit team and we often meet to see how to solve problems and how to satisfy customers and keep them. We look at competitors’ products to see how we can do better, following precision and speed.»
For the future, Durox — which has a clear commitment to sustainability, shown by a large photovoltaic plant and the choice of non-polluting products — is planning to extend the production site with a new building, still in Remanzacco.
